For some time the Designs Office has classified Australian design applications according to the Eight Edition of the International Classification for Industrial Designs (IDC 8).
The Ten Edition of the International Classification for Industrial Designs (IDC 10) will be in force as of 1 January 2014.
All applications filed up to and including 31 December 2013 will continue to be indexed in IDC 8.
All applications filed on or after 1 January 2014 will be indexed in IDC 10.
At this stage, it is not anticipated that the Designs Office will “re-classify” any of the back-file of design records currently retrievable to bring them into line with IDC 10.
Information concerning the nature and extent of the changes from IDC 8 to IDC 10 and implications for searching the Designs Office databases subsequent to 1 January 2014 will be provided on the IP Australia website, in the near future.
