The Federal Institute of Intellectual Property Switzerland announces the lecture “Protection for photographs in Switzerland”. It is important to mention that photographs are only protected by copyright in Switzerland if they have “individual character”. The two most recent judgments from the Federal Supreme Court and the Aargau Commercial Court reveal that the majority of photographs in Switzerland are probably not protected by copyright. Therefore, many trade associations proposed the introduction of copyright protection for photographs within the framework of the AGUR12.
As many other European countries, Germany has a great experience in the protection for photographs. The German media attorneys, Dr Sebastian Rengshausen and Dirk Feldmann, two famous copyright experts with many years of litigation experience as attorneys, will comment on copyright protection for photographs within its legislative system and accentuate the development of case law in Germany and the impact on contracts and collective management.
