On April 21, 2016 the President of AIPPI (International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property) released a communique regarding World IP Day, which this year is with theme “Digital Creativity: Culture Reimagined”.
Dear AIPPI Friends,
On Tuesday, April 26, 2016, I encourage each of you to join with others to mark World IP Day – a day to celebrate the important global role which intellectual property plays in supporting creativity and technological innovation.
The celebration of World IP Day started in the year 2000, when WIPO member states designated April 26th as a day on which to both consider how IP contributes to creativity and innovation and promote a better awareness and understanding of IP. April 26th was selected as it was the day on which the WIPO Convention (creating WIPO) took effect in 1970. This year’s theme at WIPO is “Digital Creativity: Culture Reimagined”.
I have a particular interest in promoting an understanding of IP to young people as the future IP actors, either as IP owners or consumers. Amongst other activities in which you may be participating on World IP Day, may I suggest that you consider on that day imparting a message to those young people in your life who will benefit from learning something practical about IP and its importance in their futures. You can share your coaching experience at gro.ippianull@srebmem.
I wish all of you a happy World IP Day.
Best regards,
President of AIPPI
