The Islamic Republic of Iran ratified the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) on July 4, becoming the 148th contracting state.
International applications filed from October 4 this year will include the designation of Iran. Nationals and residents of Iran will be able to file international applications under the PCT from the same date.
Iran is the second country from the Middle East that joins the PCT this year. The first one – Saudi Arabia ratified on May 3. The treaty enters into force in Saudi Arabia on August 3, 2013.
