On December 17, representatives of Bulgarian Association of Phonogram Producers, Collective Society of Neighboring rights of Phonogram Producers and Performing Artists in Private Interests PROPHON, and the Department of Rock and Pop Music in the Union of Bulgarian Artists delivered to Mr.Stefan Danailov, Minister of Culture special “Petition for prolongation of the term of protection of the performing artists’ and phonogram producers’ rights”. This document is signed by the representatives of all musical genders who support the idea for amendments in Directive 93/98/EEC concerning the duration of protection of copyrights and related rights. This action means that Bulgaria also joins the debate arising in EU about the duration of protection of related rights.
The main goal of this Petition is to serve as a key driver in the process of creation of official position to this issue. Thereafter Bulgaria has to present its position to the EU Commissaries in charge of this problem. France and Germany have already expressed their support for amendments in the European copyright legislation.
