Port Elizabeth, South Africa (November 25 to December 6, 2013)
This two-week Summer School on IP and Transfer of Technology, offered jointly by the WIPO Academy , the Department of Science and Technology of South Africa, the National Intellectual Property Management Office, the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission and Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, provides an opportunity for senior students and young professionals to acquire deeper knowledge of intellectual property (IP) and transfer of technology, to discuss current issues pertaining to the management and commercialization of intellectual property, and to teach students about the role WIPO plays in the global administration of IP in enhancing transfer of technology.
Curriculum
The program consists of lectures by eminent WIPO and external experts in the field of IP and transfer of technology. It also includes case studies and group discussions on selected IP topics.
A certificate of participation is awarded to those who successfully complete all requirements of the program.
Eligibility
The Summer School is open to 50 senior students (graduate and postgraduate) and young professionals from any field of study or discipline. The program is designed for candidates who are already familiar with IP.
Pre-selected candidates will be required to successfully complete a special session of the Academy’s distance learning Course on Intellectual Property Management. Dates for this session will be announced upon pre-selection.
Participants are responsible for their own travel to and from Port Elizabeth as well as accommodation and living expenses during their participation in the program.
Insurance and Medical Examination
Non-resident participants will be provided with insurance coverage for the duration of their stay in connection with the Summer School program.
Each participant will be required to present a medical certificate upon arrival.

Online registration for this Summer School is open till August 30, 2013. Applicants should submit their resumé together with a letter of motivation (setting out their reasons for applying and what they hope to gain from the Summer School) to: summerschool.southafrica@nullwipo.int.
