The IACC is pleased to announce that Daniel Marti’s long awaited confirmation as the next U.S. IP Enforcement Coordinator (IPEC) was finalized Monday evening with a 92-0 vote by the full Senate. The U.S. IPEC position was created under the PRO-IP Act of 2008 in order to raise the profile and importance of intellectual property rights to the U.S. economy and to enhance the nation’s strategy and coordination of enforcement efforts to protect intellectual property. Mr. Marti’s domestic and international legal experience in intellectual property rights in his position at Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP, makes him an ideal IPEC. Kilpatrick Townsend and Mr. Marti have also been active members in the IACC.
The IACC has supported the creation of the IPEC from the very beginning and has subsequently built strong relations with the first IPEC, Victoria Espinel, on various initiatives including its programs to combat online counterfeiting and piracy. IACC also strongly advocated for Mr. Marti’s nomination and confirmation. IACC will continue to maintain and strengthen its partnership with the IPEC office through Mr. Marti and provide assistance and expertise to find innovative solutions to protect intellectual property.
