A European Council committee has proposed that the former deputy director of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), Christian Archambeau, should succeed António Campinos as head of the office.
On Friday, July 13, the Permanent Representatives Committee, which is responsible for preparing the work of the Council, voted to recommend Archambeau as executive director. The appointment is expected to be formalised in an upcoming Council meeting.
Archambeau has been serving as acting executive director of the EUIPO for the past month, since António Campinos took the helm as president at the European Patent Office (EPO). With a strong record of 20 years of executive leadership experience in the Intellectual Property field, Campinos was elected President in October 2017 by the Administrative Council of the European Patent Organisation, the EPO’s legislative body, for a five-year term.
Archambeau served as the EUIPO’s deputy executive director for more than seven years, before which he dedicated 8 years to managing the Administration and the Human Resources in the European Patent Office in the Netherlands, where he worked since 2002. Archambeau’s EU working perspective, also comes from 15 years working in the European Space Agency, where he held various managerial positions since 1987.
