The General Assembly of member states of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), held in Geneva from 23 September to 2nd October 2013. Delegates from the 186 member countries of WIPO met in Geneva to adopt the WIPO Program and Budget, as well as consideration of other important issues and priorities in the work of the Organization for the period 2014-2015. Montenegro is on this year’s series of sessions Assembly WIPO represented delegation by Adzic Novak, director of the Intellectual Property Office of Montenegro, who was the head of the delegation, Dušanka Perovic, Assistant Director of Industrial Property in the Department of Intellectual Property, Ambassador of the Permanent mission Montenegro to the UN in Geneva, Ljubisa Perovic (responsible for WIPO), Ambassador of Montenegro to the WTO and the Council for human Rights of the UN, Zorica Maric-George and Maja Jovović-Smidht, Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of Montenegro to the United Nations in Geneva.
For the Chairman of the Assembly of WIPO, with a two-year term was chosen Ambassador of the Permanent Mission of Finland to the UN, Päivi Cairo, who chaired this year’s session. Director-General, in his opening address to delegates commented on the most prominent goals of WIPO, as well as the importance of the adoption of two international agreements on industrial design as well as genetic resources, traditional knowledge and traditional kulturninim expressions. As the most prominent result of the work of WIPO and the last session was allocated adoption of the Marrakesh Agreement easier access to the blind and visually impaired persons as well as persons who have difficulties in the use of printed works. The Director-General has designated 2013 as the first year in which there were more than 200,000 international applications. It took 24 years to PCT system reaches 100,000 international applications in one year and now twice smaller period of time to reach the number of 200,000 applications.
