To apply for Community trade mark (CTM) in Europe now costs less than before. The price was reduced at 40% fee cut and it came inforce on May 1, 2009. It is as a result of a long-discussed proposal to deal with the surplus at the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM). The cut came into effect on May 1 and it is the second time CTM fees have been reduced, following a 30% reduction in 2005 and it is due to the higher than expected demand for European rights, as well as increased efficiencies and automation at OHIM.
Now the trademark applicants will immediately feel the benefit in the removal of the registration fee means that the cost of applying for CTM has fallen by 40%.
