On 30 september, at the Deans Office of the Belgrade University, 160 years from the birth of Mihajlo Pupin, the world famous scientist and innovator of Serbian origin, was celebrated.
Mihajlo Pupin is the owner of a large number of patents known all over the world. In the USA, 35 patents of our great scientist were granted, 17 were granted in the UK, 10 in France, 8 in Canada, 5 in Denmark. Among the numerous Pupin inventions, the most famous are the “Pupin coils” that enabled the telephone conversations at great distances. The interesting data is that Mihajlo Pupin was, back in 1915, one of the founders of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics which was later named NASA
Pupin was born in the village of Idvor in the district of Banat in Vojvodina, but he spent the most of his life in the United States of America, where he had scientific and university career.
